Did You Know the Bible is One Unified Story?

The Bible isn’t a loose collection of spiritual writings. It is sixty-six books, written over fifteen hundred years, by more than forty human authors in three languages — and yet, it tells one single, unified story. That story is about God’s plan of redemption through Jesus Christ. From the beginning in Genesis, we see God promise that the seed of the woman will crush the head of the serpent. In Exodus, the Passover lamb foreshadows the ultimate Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. The Psalms cry out about a suffering Messiah, pierced and despised, and Isaiah describes the Servant who would be wounded for our transgressions. The prophets foretell a coming King, and the Gospels reveal Him in the flesh. Revelation closes the story with the triumphant return of Christ as King of kings. Christians emphasize a redemptive-historical way of reading Scripture. Instead of pulling out moral lessons here and there, we read the whole Bible as one drama of redemption. That means every covenant, every king, every sacrifice, and every prophet is preparing the way for Jesus. This truth changes the way we read our Bibles. Suddenly genealogies, temple laws, and prophetic visions are not just confusing side notes — they are puzzle pieces pointing to Christ. The Old Testament builds anticipation, the New Testament unveils fulfillment, and the entire story centers on God’s glory in salvation through judgment. The Bible is not ultimately about us, but about Him. And once we grasp that, our hearts burn within us as we read — just like the disciples on the Emmaus road, who had their eyes opened when Jesus explained that all the Scriptures pointed to Him.
